Modbook News, My Modbook

They’re building my Modbook!

I was on a conference call for work when I received a call on my cell phone. I had to send them to voicemail, but I was puzzled by the number. Who do I know in the 815 area code?

OWC, that’s who!

When I ordered my Modbook, I used a debit card. My bank has a per day cap on the debit card, so I had talked to OWC and we knew that, when they initially tried to run the card, they would be flagged for exceeding that limit. So OWC would call me, I would all the bank and give the go ahead on the transaction, then let OWC know to proceed.

When I got off the call, I listened the voicemail and did a freaking happy dance! It was from Melissa at OWC letting me know that they would be running my card and preparing to ship my Modbook. So, I handled business and called her back.

Status Change

For those who have ordered a Modbook and want to know what to expect, there are two different places where you can check status on your order.

Normal Order Status (Click here)

OWC’s normal order status page is at https://eshop.macsales.com/orderStatus/. If you ordered any other products from OWC, this is where you’d go for historical information.

Prior to today, my Modbook order status was Modbook-Conf, which means, to the best of my knowledge, that I had a confirmed order placed for the Modbook. As of today, the status on this page is listed as Waiting On Customer/orderp, which is no doubt due to the issue I listed above.

Special Modbook Status Page (Click here)
There is a secondary status page that OWC made specifically for Modbook orders located at https://eshop.macsales.com/orderStatus/modbook/.

Here is what this page currently states:
Your order was processed on Aug-13-2008 and is currently in it’s build phase.
Please allow up to five days for us to finish your custom build.
You will receive a shipment notification when your order is built and shipped.

Ordering to Shipping

I order my Modbook on June 24, 2008. At that time, I was told it would ship on or before August 25, 2008. According to OWC’s update today, the MOdbook is being built and should ship within 5 days. If that holds true, my Modbook should ship on around Monday, August 18, 2008. That would put it a week ahead of schedule which, to me, is fan-freakin’-tastic!

Having read about extensive delays, I was worried that August 25th would come and pass with no news. I am really happy to see that OWC and Axiotron have managed to set a time table that is doable.

My feelings on OWC so far

There’s a lot of negativity in the community surrounding the extensive delays with the Modbook launch and the subsequent backorder ordeal. From my viewpoint, those issues are mainly attributable to Axiotron, who was responsible for manufacturing the Modbook conversion kit and getting those out in a timely manner.

But that’s all speculation. From my own experience, I can tell you that I have been happy with every interaction that I’ve had with OWC. I’ve found them responsive, honest, friendly and very professional. I’ve been in contact with them 5-10 times over the past few months and, each time, I am more and more impressed with their courtesy, knowledge and their follow through.
