Over the weekend, we went to see Brian’s folks and I took the Modbook along to show them. Brian’s mother is an amazing artist, and especially a fantastic painter. I knew she’d get a kick out of the Modbook as she’s not kept up with her painting recently because of all of the work associated with it.
You have to set up and cover the floor, get the paints out, get the brushes ready, get the canvas ready, then paint. And then you have the clean up: clean the brushes, the pallet, handle the wet painting, etc. It’s not a process you go through when you only have 10-15 minutes of free time. She only really paints when she has several days free, which isn’t very often anymore.
So, I knew she’d enjoy the simplicity of the Modbook, and especially the painting tools in Art Rage. What I didn’t expect was how quickly she’d catch on!
After about 15 minutes of instruction, she went for it and, about 45 minutes later, she has made the beautiful painting of a tree you see in this article!
To me, this proves the fact that the Modbook’s interface is natural to an artist. Sure, you have to learn where the tools are and how to use them but, once you’ve got that, creating beautiful pieces of art is limited only by your own creativity. Brian’s mother will be the first to tell you that she’s not overly tech savvy, but she is good on a laptop. The fact that they are a Mac family already definitely helped her pick it up so quickly, but she did very little work in the OS herself. Most of her efforts were in Art Rage and she had no trouble picking it up.
