Axiotron begins offering Modservice option for existing Macbooks

Axiotron CEO Andreas Haas made a formal press release yesterday afternoon announcing that Axiotron would begin modifying existing Macbooks with their patented Modbook conversion kit. They have dubbed this process Modservice. Take a brief moment to read the release, and then we’ll discuss the writing on the wall for Axiotron, OWC and the Modbook. Here is [...]

Apple makes new laptops official

Well, we’ve been talking about it here at Modbookers.com for months, but Apple has finally made it official: the entire Apple laptop line appears to be in for a face lift. Engadget has received an official invitation from Apple for a Town Hall event in San Francisco next Tuesday, October 14th at 10AM PST. With the artwork [...]

Thank you to NervousChimp for tipping us off on Axiotron’s official post. (We also have another story in the works contributed by NervousChimp. Thanks for your support Adam!) It appears that Axiotron has finally arrived at a permanent solution to the on-going and frustrating issues Modbook owners have been experiencing with Bluetooth for months now. [...]

Artist Spotlight: Eric Lee

From time to time, I’m going to begin spotlighting artists who are also Modbook users. Eric Lee, who just happens to be a fellow Tulsan, is one of the guys behind the fantastic web comic, Boodachitaville. If you aren’t familiar with Boodachitaville, it’s one of the most original and consistently funny web comics [...]

Well, I was wrong

Like I said, I know nothing of Apple and their thought process. :) I have to say, I am disappointed that today’s big event was an iPod only extravaganza. All in all, I found today’s event and announcement pretty underwhelming. I was expecting more than a new Nano and some other [...]

Predictions for tomorrow

Since Apple is plastering the sides of the Yerba Buena Center for the Performing Arts in San Francisco with huge iPod banners, I don’t think there’s any denying that an iPod update is coming (photos by Andrew Mager). Many tech sites are saying that this will be an iPod only announcement based on the invite and [...]

An official Apple tablet?

The Apple rumor mill is abuzz once more. Ever since Apple sent out a notice to their partner’s in July, the tech blogs have been going crazy with rumors and speculation. Well, Apple has at least made one thing official: they are announcing something. Apple sent out announcements this morning to media outlets for a shindig [...]

Review: SmudgeGuard Glove

Just so you know, this article is 100% opinion. I have not been paid to post a review of the SmudgeGuard and I have not received free merchandise. The SmudgeGuard partial glove is an ingenious invention. As any artist knows, at some point, you are going to rest the side of your hand on [...]

Ease of use

Over the weekend, we went to see Brian’s folks and I took the Modbook along to show them. Brian’s mother is an amazing artist, and especially a fantastic painter. I knew she’d get a kick out of the Modbook as she’s not kept up with her painting recently because of all of the [...]

Still learning

I didn’t want you to think I’d forgotten about you! :) The past few days have been super busy with family stuff. To top it off, I just found out my best friend is in the hospital having her baby! Yay! So, that’s exciting. On the Modbook front: I am still [...]

My Modbook Configuration

I have a longer post coming which focuses on my experience with OWC, the company behind selling, assembling and shipping the Modbook in the US.  Expect that tomorrow. Over the past couple days, I’ve received a few e-mails wanting to know how I configured my Modbook.  If you’ve spent any time on OWC’s website looking at [...]

First impressions

I said that I would post my initial impressions of the Modbook yesterday. Let me tell you, this little machine will avsolutely make you lose track of time all together. It seemed like I opened it, then it was 11:00 PM. I apologize for the missed deadline! :) Where did the time go you ask? Well, I will tell you!

OWC extends shipping interval

OWC extends shipping interval

If you have been keeping up with the Daily Shipping Update section of Modbookers, you may have noticed a pretty big change. Some background: the estimated shipping date is pulled directly from OWC's website each day. This date only applies to orders made through OWC and the date is a guide, not a guarantee. I just didn't want anyone thinking I was pulling this date out of my....hat. :) As of yesterday's update, OWC was estimating that new Modbook orders would ship by (or before) October 8, 2008. If you look at the history of the shipping updates, this is a pretty consistent interval based on the past 60-90 days. But something happened this morning. I pulled the date as normal and began posting it when I realized something was wrong: the interval had changed.

Want a Modbook? Order it now.

Want a Modbook? Order it now.

As I wrote last week, Apple has advised it's partners and agents to stock up on Macbooks and iPods, as production will slow to a trickle in August (this month). Historically, this is an indication that Apple is halting production on those products as they gear up for a refresh or a redesign. For prospective Modbook owners, the best case scenario would be a simple refresh in the guts of the Macbook, which the Modbook is based on. Any technical upgrades along those lines shouldn't cause Axiotron another 6-12 month delay while they research the changes and alter the Axiotron Modbook conversion kit, which is shipped to Axiotron partners like OWC in the US. Unfortunately, f we're going by the Apple rumor mill, then that doesn't seem to be the case.
